This concept sees all cartons being started from a central point and proceeding to all stations from which products are required. In this way, an order consisting of several cartons is processed simultaneously at a number of different stations and arrives at the dispatch station in the shortest possible time. With cartons being buffered in stations, a flexible allocation of staff during off-peak work times is possible.
As well as being able to freely increase and decrease storage locations in number and fit new indication panels, Pick-to-Light and Pick-by-Voice are systems which are particularly suitable for frequent price changes caused by tax-related price fluctuations on products.
An operator first of all logs into a picking station with a specific ID code, and cartons of the appropriate size, which are to receive the ordered products, are diverted to the station. Bright position indicators of the Pick-to-Light panels direct the operator to the relevant storage location where the number of products to be picked is clearly displayed.
The completed order is then confirmed, whereupon the indicators are reset so that a new order can be processed. The Pick-by-Voice system supplies the operator with orders via radio frequency. Each step performed in the processing sequence is confirmed verbally.
