The unique quality of picking with autopickers lies in the fact that all picking staff work simultane-ously on a single order. This results in shorter processing times, an even distribution of workload, and a huge reduction in staffing requirements.
If goods are to be transported over a long distance, optimisation of the order volume can be carried out at a final consolidation station. All containers for a customer order are directed through the picking areas as a single convoy. Even when there is a large throughput involved, an intelligent “dynamic start function” ensures that these requirements are met.
Fully-automatic autopickers such as SDA, TDA, TD-Lean and UPD are used worldwide for picking fast and medium-moving articles like pharmaceutical products and cosmetics.
Products which are not suitable for autopickers can be picked semi-automatically, e.g. using the MPS system. Functioning in a similar way to an autopicker, the manually-picked part orders are consolidated automatically. The use of RF terminals means that no paperwork is necessary.
