Machine Minder (f/m)

Overview of the Role:

The Machine Minder will be required to carry out the preparation, operational and rectification tasks listed below on the B+ and associated automated materials handling equipment (AMHE) within the D2C area at Magna Park.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Start of shift checks ensuring equipment is fit for use
  • Powering down safely and correctly to allow product flow faults to be rectified  Investigate the reasons and re-start the system after an emergency stop (non technical errors)
  • Rectify time-out faults using the HMI panel  Follow safety procedures when working on and around the AMHE such as isolation, following the safe entry procedure and correct use of PPE
  • Using access equipment in and around the system to support and/or rectify product flow
  • Machine Housekeeping (cleanliness), removal of any objects that interfere with product flow, e.g. packaging debris, to ensue product flow is not impeded
  • Report issues to the control room for issuing or escalation to the engineering partners for rectification
  • Communication of faults and system availability
  • Notifying the JLP partners of faults and their locations
  • Escalation of faults to the engineering partners
  • Notifying the control room of the rectification of faults and the return to service of the equipment Qualifications/Experience:
  • Numerate and Literate, able to use computer equipment Able and responsible to work on own initiative – to be a self-starter Clear spoken voice and auditory comprehension
  • To be a competent and supportive team member and an independent self-motivated worker
  • Self-motivated and a proactive approach to problem solving is essential
  • Ability to learn and develop on the job

Technical Requirements: 

Communications

  • Follow the onsite communication protocol to ensure the operation is kept informed of all issue.  Use of a handheld radio is provided for this use.

Reporting

  • The Machine Minder must be instructed and trained for all the tasks assigned to them and on the possible hazards resulting from incorrect use of procedures or work in carrying out their tasks
  • Shift Handover Meetings – The machine minder must provide and receive relevant information communicated at the start and end of shift brief.
  • Further communications need to be introduced via the shift handover i.e. toolbox talks, meeting with engineering colleagues, etc. to enable the Machine Minder to relay any concerns or problems with the automated materials handling equipment

Prerequisites

  • The Machine Minder must be instructed and trained for all the tasks assigned to them and on the possible hazards resulting from incorrect use of procedures or work in carrying out their tasks
  • Must be instructed on the necessary protection devices, protective measures, relevant regulations, accident prevention regulations, PUWER regulations and operating conditions
  • Attendance to site instructed training courses is mandatory to fulfil this role
  • Must be instructed on how the communication protocol works, as this plays a vital part in the efficient running of a DC. The Machine Minder must adhere to these communication protocols, to ensure compliance with Health and safety at work regulations, use of radios and key systems are provided for this use.
  • The task does involve a considerable amount of manual handling and the candidates’ physical abilities must be strongly considered.

  • Though not guaranteed there is the potential that following successful fulfilment over a sustained period this role could lead to a promotion to the role of Automation Assistant
