SAP® EWM MFS by KNAPP
The integrated material flow computer for seamless automation
SAP® EWM MFS (Material Flow System) by KNAPP controls your warehouse automation directly from your existing SAP® Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) system, without any external middleware or additional control levels. The integrated material flow system acts as a warehouse control system (WCS), enabling continuous processes, seamlessly integrating automation and lowering complexity. Whether your project is a greenfield or a retrofit, our solution is the native WCS expansion for rounding out your SAP® IT strategy and making your warehouse processes efficient, scalable and future-oriented.
Are you looking to benefit from an end-to-end SAP® system landscape with SAP® EWM MFS?
Complete control of automated warehouse processes with SAP® WCS
The MFS module is directly embedded in SAP® EWM. Like a classic WCS, it connects to the PLC to seamlessly integrate and orchestrate warehouse technology and conveyor systems in the SAP® system landscape. As a result, it reduces interfaces, improves process reliability and performance, and creates a stable, transparent SAP® system landscape with a consistent dataset.
Despite these advantages, many SAP customers approach this module with skepticism, perceiving it as too complex, too rigid and not flexible enough for custom automation solutions. This is where KNAPP comes in, bringing industry expertise, a deep understanding of processes and decades of experience in warehouse automation to the table.

SAP® EWM MFS by KNAPP controls warehouses with different automation levels flexibly and efficiently, from compact storage solutions to highly complex, dynamic systems. Using SAP® EWM MFS by KNAPP, we control even the most highly automated systems with hundreds of thousands of telegrams per hour directly from the SAP® cloud – with a latency under 25 milliseconds.

Intelligent process integration with
SAP® EWM MFS and KNAPP Building Blocks
The standard version of SAP® EWM MFS can integrate a number of automation technologies, from conveyor systems to shuttle systems, robotics and AMR solutions. For complex requirements that go beyond the SAP® EWM standard, KNAPP Building Blocks offer a targeted solution.
KNAPP Building Blocks are ready-to-use software modules based on 100 percent SAP coding. They serve as interfaces and expand on the SAP® EWM standard to fulfill the sector-specific or specific material flow requirements of a warehouse. The Building Blocks also allow different KNAPP technologies, such as conveyor systems, shuttle systems, central belt conveyors or KNAPP Stores to be directly connected to and controlled by SAP® EWM.
They can also expand the SAP® EWM standard software to meet industry-specific requirements for business processes, such as order release for manual and automatic warehouse areas based on shipping times and storage capacities. In summary, KNAPP Building Blocks simplify the connection of different systems to SAP® EWM MFS, maximizing material flow consistency, transparency and efficiency – all while controlling them in one central SAP® system.
FAQs – Key questions and answers
SAP® EWM MFS was developed specifically for direct machine control in an SAP® system landscape. It is embedded directly into SAP® EWM and therefore combining it with other warehouse management systems is not advisable. For a complete solution, we recommend full integration into SAP® EWM.
Yes, existing automation solutions can be integrated into SAP® EWM MFS after the fact – such as during the course of a WCS retrofit – regardless of who supplied the automation and without any middleware. For the integration, KNAPP uses standardized interfaces and their own SAP®-compatible KNAPP Building Blocks to ensure seamless integration and real-time control.
