History

2013
KNAPP Industry Solutions is founded in November 2013 as a 100 % subsidiary of the KNAPP AG. With the new subsidiary, the KNAPP group expands their focus to the manufacturing and industrial sectors. The company is headquartered in Dobl Business Park, south of Graz.
2014
The company initially focuses on recruiting employees and acquiring potential customers, resulting in rapid growth. Just a year after its founding, KNAPP Industry Solutions adds a production hall and moves to new offices. The KNAPP AG purchases the campus, along with land for future expansions, at the end of the year
2016
In 2016, the Industry Solutions Business Unit is founded and placed under the responsibility of KNAPP Industry Solutions. The Dobl subsidiary is now the KNAPP group’s specialist for all-in-one logistics solutions for manufacturing, production and distribution. This year, they also start to develop and produce the Open Shuttle autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), as well as to integrate them into the solution portfolio for the subsidiary’s core business area, industry.
2017
Economic growth means developing the location in Dobl into a KNAPP campus. A new five-story office building and an annex to the production hall provide space for up to 300 employees, turning Dobl into a center for intelligent industrial solutions. 2017 also marks the acquisition of projects for prestigious automakers and an innovative zero-defect production solution for Pankl Racing.
2019
In 2019, the Open Shuttles are redesigned. The new generation of autonomous mobile robots boasts technical highlights such as an integrated lifter and the ability to transport two containers at once, opening up new applications. The year also witnesses the implementation of projects for Terberg, Adient, Atea and VW.
2020
In 2020, the company focuses on the electronics sector, for which a special Open Shuttle is developed and successfully deployed. Additional industrial projects are also successfully completed. One standout is Digmesa, whose Open Shuttle solution only took 4 months to implement. In 2021, the solution is expanded by another vehicle.
2021
KNAPP Industry Solutions starts the year at the 100-employee milestone. The year’s highlights include warehouse automation projects for Knorr-Bremse and Getriebebau NORD.
2022
The autonomous mobile robot portfolio grows with the addition of the Open Shuttle Fork for transporting pallets. The company rolls out a combined solution with an Evo Shuttle and Open Shuttles for Magna Assamstadt, and another automation solution is created for Vola.
2023
The campus in Dobl continues to grow. Manufacturing relocates to a new 5,000 m² production hall (54,000 ft²) with offices. The Open Shuttle Fork also wins several awards, including the Best of Industry Award 2023. The first companies to deploy a large fleet of Open Shuttle Fork robots are Fronius in Austria and Cummins in Sweden. KNAPP Industry Solutions also implements automation solutions for Lecot, DRiV and PC Electric.
2024
Projects for B&R (Austria), Cummins (Sweden) and Liebherr (France)
2025
AeroBot, the innovative robotic warehouse system, enters the market. The Dobl campus plays a major role in developing its software. NORD Electronics and Siemens are some of the first companies who opt for this innovative storage system. The year’s industrial project highlights include a solution for SICK Hungary. The management team also grows as Christian Brauneis and Stefan Lechner join Bernhard Rottenbücher and Birgit Sükar on the Managing Board of KNAPP Industry Solutions. Wolfgang Skrabitz steps down from the board at the end of the year.
2026
KNAPP Industry Solutions now has 190 employees and celebrates the go-live of new automation solutions for Philmac (Australia), MSG (Austria) and Siemens (Karlsruhe, Germany

Anna-Carina Adam

Doing an internship while I was at university was my foot in the door to the world of KNAPP. I started working for KNAPP Industry Solutions while finishing my master’s degree. I’ve been in Dobl since 2013 and since then I’ve worked my way up to head of marketing & business development.

Michael Mayr

While I was studying, I started working as a process manager for KNAPP Industry Solutions on the side. I later switched to sales and I’ve been working full time as a sales manager for Open Shuttles since I graduated in 2026. What I really like about KNAPP is getting to do different things and the excellent opportunities for advancement.
