KNAPP has developed its own emulation tool, KiSoft Sandbox, for comprehensive testing and virtual startup of installations to make sure that everything is perfect right down to the dot. With this tool, KNAPP can reduce installation times on site for the customer by performing integration tests in advance and implementing system tests and mass tests for system analysis alongside real operation.
Creating a virtual warehouse
KiSoft Sandbox creates a virtual representation of the warehouse, mapped precisely according to the real image. The system considers all intralogistics components and processes, both manual and automatic. “By using emulations we make sure that our logistics systems generate the expected performance. We carry out the tests in our facilities prior to installing the systems. Even customers, such as John Lewis or Clarks, test new process sequences in material flow with KiSoft Sandbox and use the safe test environment for staff training”, explains Robert Lackner, Product Manager at KNAPP Systemintegration.
Safe test environment
KiSoft Sandbox allows various types of tests: emulation can be used for the entire in-house acceptance tests for control software. Changes to the software or configuration can be tested in advance, parallel to the real system, without affecting real-time operation. Especially the virtual mass tests are extremely resource-friendly, operating without staff or transport goods. The tests systematically show bottlenecks and provide information on workload and throughput. KiSoft Sandbox is also used for training: staff members can familiarize themselves with the software in hands-on application, which means they are able to handle real operation easily in minimum time.
