What started with an idea from a logistics manager, software developer and a careful listener in 2016 has grown into a successful software company with renowned international customers such as EDEKA Rhein-Ruhr in Germany, British retailer Marks&Spencer and Victorinox, the manufacturer of the iconic Swiss pocket knives. This year, redPILOT GmbH located in Dobl, Austria is celebrating their 10th anniversary.

How can companies with logistics operations better use existing resources and lower costs without affecting quality? This question remains at the core of redPILOT GmbH’s endeavors, a subsidiary of the Austrian KNAPP group. The company’s answer is redPILOT® Operational Excellence Solution, a cloud-based software solution for optimizing warehouse and logistics processes.

What powers logistics centers today is data – data on goods, machines and people. This information is usually saved in separate systems that have little to no communication with each other, causing major hiccups in operations. The warehouse might be running, but not to the extent possible, and with unexpected crises occurring more and more frequently, placing an additional burden on the logistics industry. Mastering these challenges requires transparent, centralized information, the right know-how and clear suggestions for action – all in real time, as every minute counts in logistics. With redPILOT® Operational Excellence Solution, redPILOT offers just that: Intelligent software that interprets decentralized data from different logistics systems and offers suitable courses of action.

AI supports planning and decision-making within seconds

Logistics managers make critical decisions on a daily basis and need to know immediately when a warehouse area is overloaded, not hours into the situation. redPILOT can provide strong support, pointing out bottlenecks and where capacities are reaching their limits in real time. With its AI-powered features, redPILOT also provides courses of action, such as: “Reassign employee A from goods-in process X to picking station Y.” This helps managers make the right decisions based on solid data, saving the business time and costs.

In addition, redPILOT uses relevant employee information such as qualifications, training certificates and availability to help team leaders plan shifts for the upcoming weeks with just a few clicks. What used to take several days to plan using Excel can now be achieved much faster, making full use of the optimization potential. Rounding out the cloud-based, modular software solution is an app for logistics teams, a module for tracking non-system-managed activities and a module for structured maintenance management.

Today, redPILOT GmbH employs more than 20 people at their location in Dobl, Austria and is continuing its successful growth course. The company’s software is in use at over 100 logistics companies worldwide, managing more than 15,000 logistics employees.

As the market for operational excellence solutions is gaining ground, redPILOT GmbH is aiming for further growth in the upcoming years, while keeping company headquarters at the current location in Dobl, and continues to innovate, developing an AI-based order control system together with customers, for example, and integrating it into the redPILOT software.

“Over the past 10 years, one idea has grown into a business that helps logistics companies make better operational decisions on a daily basis. Our goal is unwavering: to use existing resources optimally and enhance logistics processes for the long term,” explains Siegfried Zwing, founder and Managing Director of redPILOT.
