Proving ground for up-and-coming robotics talents
Students from Styria and Carinthia were presented with the latest edition of a popular challenge at the 2025 RoboLeague on May 15, 2025. At KNAPP’s robotics competition, 120 students from 10 schools – and their robots – went head-to-head in different competitions. This year, turnout was so high that registration for the 7th annual competition was closed a full month before the registration deadline.
In the 2025 RoboLeague, 45 teams competed to solve tricky tasks with their robots. Since 2017, KNAPP has been inviting middle and high school students to take part in KNAPP’s robotics competition and get a taste of the digital future. The teams spent a whole day tinkering with their robots and putting their heads together to set new records in 5 different disciplines. This year’s winners hail from the following schools: junior high Mittelschule Dobl, Wildon and Semriach, high schools BRG Petersgasse and Peraugymnasium Villach. At the awards ceremony, the winning teams received cinema vouchers, along with plenty of applause. Supporting the event were 20 KNAPP apprentices, who judged the competitions and helped ensure that everything went smoothly.
RoboLeague encourages tomorrow’s talents
The RoboLeague offers a platform where students can explore their passion for technology and gain valuable practical experience. “The use of robotics in automation is becoming more important each year, as we can see from the constantly growing number of industrial robots installed around the world. We need young people who are interested in technology, who we can encourage and empower to shape the progress of tomorrow,” says Wolfgang Skrabitz, Managing Director of KNAPP Industry Solutions. As an expert in automation and robotics, KNAPP has been a dedicated sponsor of the competition since its founding. Furthermore, KNAPP is a founding member of the MINTality Foundation, which supports women in pursuing careers in science and technology.
Intelligent robotics systems and new records
Students from a total of 10 schools across Styria and Carinthia took part in the 2025 RoboLeague, seizing the opportunity to prove their creative and technical skills in different competitions. For example, in the Follow the Road event, robots had to navigate along a predefined path to the finish line. Teachers prepared their students for the competition in class with in-depth training materials that included plenty of tasks to get competitors ready for the big day. Preparation extended all the way up to the competition itself, as the robots received their final adjustments on site. RoboLeague competitors used the innovative Makeblock® mBot2 and LEGO® Mindstorms EV3, which are controlled using a code-based programming language.
About the RoboLeague
The robotics competition was founded in collaboration with the BRG Kepler school and serves as an excellent introduction to other robotics competitions such as the RoboCup Junior and the RoboCup.
