The South Korean retailer A-Sung Daiso is building the largest automated distribution centre in South Korea for the efficient supply of the country’s southern regions. KNAPP is providing the technology, a highly efficient and flexible OSR Shuttle system solution and storage for 70,000 totes.

With over 1,200 lifestyle shops, A-Sung Daiso is the number one retailer of household articles in South Korea and has commissioned KNAPP with the automation of its new distribution centre in Busan, South Korea. The largest distribution centre in the entire country will span 73,600 m2, with A-Sung Daiso investing a total of 120 million euros.

Besides an automated pallet storage system for 52,000 pallets and 18,000 pallet storage locations in a manual area, KNAPP is also providing a high-performance OSR Shuttle solution for single item picking. The substantial range covers over 30,000 different articles, including cosmetics, sports equipment, toys, health products and gardening articles in addition to household goods. Picking is carried out at 54 work stations of the Pick-it-Easy series based on the goods-to-person procedure.

Startup of the new system is planned for July 2019. Philipp Schitter is delighted about the new commission. “The flexible shuttle solution provides access at all times to all of the articles and provides freedom for A-Sung Daiso for future business developments. The OSR Shuttle solution will allow A-Sung Daiso to replenish the stores more frequently with much smaller quantities and to respond flexibly to market conditions.”
