The Adolf Würth GmbH&Co.KG confirms their tremendous growth with the building of a new distribution centre at the Künzelsau (Germany) headquarters. For the project with a contract value of 60 million Euro, the world leader for trade in assembly and fastening materials is relying on the proven OSR Shuttle system by KNAPP. The intralogistics specialist will make a substantial contribution to developing the logistical conditions for further growth.

In a storage area of 17,000 square metres the Würth Group is building their most modern and efficient logistics centre. Every day up to 60,000 order lines will filled and dispatched from the building. About 100,000 containers and 6,000 pallet storage locations will have a place in the centre. Würth places particular value on the ergonomic design of the work stations and the use of the newest technologies.

KNAPP OSR Shuttle system as essential element of the new logistics centre
Two OSR Shuttle systems will be installed by KNAPP, one for picking and one to function as a dispatch buffer.

Goods delivered on pallets are separated, placed in containers that weight up to 50 kg and stored in the picking OSR Shuttle, fully automatically. When an order is received the corre-sponding container begins its short journey to the ergonomically designed Pick-it-Easy work stations. The goods are picked into cartons at the work station. The picked cartons then pro-ceed to the manual pack station or directly to the automated packing station where filling mate-rial, dispatch documents and invoices are added. Lids and labels are automatically applied. The second OSR Shuttle system is used as dispatch buffer for the cartons. If an order is released for dispatch, the corresponding cartons are retrieved from the OSR Shuttle and transported to goods-out in the correct sequence. Four fully-automatic pallet cells finalize this process whereby the cartons are stacked on a goods-out pallet according to an optimal packing pattern.

SALT Solutions GmbH, KNAPP’s proven partner, was commissioned with the implementation of the SAP EWM as warehouse management system.

Project team with “Würth experience”
KNAPP is engaging the know-how from across the group and has created a project team with several years of “Würth experience”.

The Managing Director of KNAPP Systemintegration GmbH, Bernhard Rottenbücher, as well as project manager Werner Lichtenegger ensure that the competencies and synergies of this loca-tion-spanning team are optimally used within the KNAPP Group.
Installation of this big project begins this year in May. The existing warehouse will be connected without having to  stop on-going operation. The most modern distribution centre of the Würth Group will be functioning as early as spring 2013. This optimal intralogistics solution by KNAPP will establish a foundation for Würth’s planned growth.
