The headquarters, factory outlet and the new logistics centre for the international fashion giant can be found nestled in a green landscape in German town of Bodelshausen. The new logistics building centralizes several warehouse locations and is equipped with the most modern KNAPP technologies.
The six regional warehouses had reached the limits of their capacities with 1.5 million items of exclusive women’s apparel in 35,000 article variants. As a result, Marc Cain decided to build a new, central logistics centre with the very latest technologies that can flexibly adapt to the needs of the company, which operates worldwide. “To achieve this, we looked for a partner who understood textiles and who could provide a complete solution. KNAPP’s entire the whole package of technology, software and references was a good fit,” explained logistics manager Robert Boland.
Flexible fashion logistics
More than three million clothing items run through the modern warehouse every year. Up to 35,000 articles are shipped every day to Marc Cain stores, upscale specialized shops or directly to customers. KNAPP’s fashion solution ensures that all the goods are available at all times and that they arrive in the right colour, size and quantity at the right address.
The core technologies of the highly-automated solution are KNAPP’s storage system the OSR Shuttle™, with 84,000 storage locations for flat-packed goods, a hanging goods area for 500,000 fashion articles that extends across five levels, and the software solution, KiSoft, that intelligently networks all the processes in the warehouse and ensures high flexibility and performance.
E-commerce is growing
According to the logistics manager Robert Boland, the B2C business is growing rapidly. On peak days, up to 1,250 packages are shipped. Online orders are packed at separate stations with special care, to give them that “premium” touch.
